לבני משפחתנו,חברותינו וחברינו היקרים
מחר, שביעי של פסח נקרא את שירת הים. לפי הפירוש המדרשי שאומץ ע"י בעלי הלכה, נקרא את ההלל בדילוג, כדי להבחין בין השמחה על יציאתנו לחירות לבין האמפתיה שעלינו לגלות כלפי המצרים שטבעו בים כשרדפו אחרינו. מורכבות זו באה לידי ביטוי גם בפרשת שמיני, בה מספרת לנו התורה על מותם של שני בני אהרון ברגע שיא של קדושה. מורכבות זו מעוררת שאלה לא פשוטה: האם שחרור ורגעי שיא של התעלות חייבים להיות כרוכים בקרבנות אדם?

Dear Family and Friends,
According to our tradition, after leaving Egypt, the Sons of Israel crossed the Red Sea on the Seventh Day of Pessach and the Egyptians who tried to stop them "were swamped in the middle of the sea… on that day, God rescued the Israelites from Egypt. The Israelites saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore".
One of the reasons for not chanting Hallel entirely on the Seventh Day of Pessach is related to the death of the Egyptians.
Maybe this teaches us that we should relate to Liberation and Redemption in a complex and dialectic way: Happiness and Joy about our Freedom, together with empathy and sorrow about the price our enemies paid for this liberation and victory.
