לבני משפחתנו, חברותינו וחברינו היקרים,
השבת נקרא מתוך 3 ספרי תורה והדבר מזמין אותנו להתבונן ב-3 הקשרים: השגרה, כלומר "פרשת השבוע", אותו חלק מהתורה המאפשר לנו לסיים מחזור שלם של קריאה בתוורה בשנה אחת; השבת אנו נכנסים גם לחודש חדש, חודש ניסן; כל חודש מזמין אותנו להתחדש ולכן יש גם קריאה מיוחדת לראש חודש; אך,חודש ניסן שהוא "חודש האביב" מזמין אותנו להתחדשות מיוחדת, המכינה אותנו לסיפור השחרור מעבדות לחירות ומזמין אותנו להתבונן במשמעותה של אותה חירות. השבוע ניתנה לנו הזדמנות, כאזרחים במדינה ריבונית דמוקרטית, לבחור את נציגינו בכנסת. היתה הפעם היענות גדולה ואזרחים רבים ניצלו את זכותם הדמוקרטית להצביע. אין ספק שדורנו זכה למה שדורות רבים בעם היהודי לא זכו. השאלה הנוקבת שיש לשאול - וכידוע בני אדם חופשיים יכולים לשאול ואף מחויבים לשאול - היא: האם כעם חופשי עלינו להסתפק בכך שכל אזרחי המדינה יכלו להצביע, או שמא עלינו לתת את הדעת על מהות הדמוקרטיה המחייבת שוויון אמיתי בין כל אזרחי המדינה והמנוגדת לשלטון של עם אחד על עם אחר.

This Shabbat, we'll start reading a new Book . Vayikra deals apparently with issues that aren't part of our everyday life:
"Sacrifices" aren't anymore the way we try to establish or to establish a relationship with G-d, the Absolute Other. Maimonides (12th Century) already knew that and considered them even as a "compromise", adequate and relevant in a period when people considered this as THE only valid option of Worship.
Does that mean that we have better alternatives, like prayer, study, philosophical contemplation, compassion for deprived members of society and "tikun olam", more appropriate for our generation?
Do we have to live constantly with the sensation of loss and hope for revival and restoration of "more authentic patterns"?
Or, maybe we haven't found the way yet to translate the essence into more understandable and relevant categories?
