לבני משפחתנו, חברותינו וחברינו היקרים,
שלשום חגגנו את יום העצמאות, מתוך התחשבות במגבלות המוטלות עלינו בגלל מגיפת הקורונה. יש כאן, לדעתי, תופעה מעניינת הראויה להתבוננות. לכאורה, אפשר היה להחליט על דחיית החגיגות, כפי שקרה עם אירועים רבים שנדחו. וזה מביא אותי להרהר במושג הקדושה, המופיע בין היתר בפרשה שנקרא מחר. כאילו יש "קדושה" בתאריך מסוים, זמן "מקודש", מעבר לנסיבות הספציפיות.
למושג "קדושה" יש קונוטציה דתית. הסופר אלבר קמי (Albert Camus) שאל בספרו "הדבר": האם אפשר להיות קדושים בלי אלוהים? הייתי מנסח את זה קצת אחרת, מכיוון שגם תפיסת האלוהות משתנה מאדם לאדם. בעיניי, נראה לי שקדושה , לא במובן התיאולוגי המוחלט, היא היכולת של אדם להתעלות מעבר לקונקרטי, למיידי, לאינסטינקטיבי ובכך להיות סובייקט אנושי הבוחר להתייחס למה שמעבר לעצמו , תוך כדי מודעות לעצמו ולצרכיו. אחד מההוגים החסידיים המעניינים, ר' מנחם מדל מקוצק דייק "ואנשי קודש תהיון לי" - הדרישה היא ל"קדושה" אנושית התפורה למידותיו ויכולותיו של האדם.

Dear Family and Friends,
A 72-years old Jewish Independent State is definitely an important historical event; our parents and grandparents hardly dreamt about the possibility of something like that happening. Is it the ideal Jewish State we dreamt about? Is it the first stage of Messianic Redemption? Not necessarily, and maybe we aren't able yet to understand its significance in History; there is still a lot to achieve, but, nevertheless, there are many reasons to look back and celebrate the potential of freedom and independence.
This year, Yom Haatzmaut occurs before"Kedoshim Tihyu" ( literally: "You shall be Holy", but maybe the meaning should be: You shall strive towards holiness) and "Emor", dealing with the obligation of Kohanim to avoid impurity. Maybe this corresponds to the polar Israeli reality: Severe corruption and misbehavior of PM and former President versus extraordinary achievements in the field of Science, Literature, Art, Social Action and Talmudic Research.
