Rashi, following the Midrash, interprets the conflict between Lot and Abraham as an ideological-moral conflict; can G-d's Promise of the Land be realized unilaterally and immediately, although there is still another people living in the Land.
After they separated, Lot landed in Sedom.
Maybe this teaches us that the inability of delaying gratification leads almost inevitably to a sodomic culture of selfishness, ethnocentrism and cruelty.
