משפחתנו, חברותינו וחברינו היקרים,
יעקב הכין עצמו לקראת המפגש עם עשיו בשלושה מישורים תפילה, דורון ומלחמה (מדרש, רש"י).כמו-כן,התורה
מספרת לנו משהו על חששותיו של יעקב לקראת
המפגש המחודש: וַיִּירָא יַעֲקֹב מְאֹד וַיֵּצֶר לוֹ. ורש"י (וגם פרשנים נוספים) בעקבות המדרש, מפרש:
"ויירא ויצר - ויירא
- שמא יֵהָרֵג (ב"ר ותנחומא) וַיֵצֶר לו "
- אם יהרוג הוא את אחרים. ואולי מלמדת אותנו התורה שלפני שיוצאים
למלחמה יש למצות אופציות אחרות; התפילה נועדה להתחברות לצלם האלהים כדי להיות מוכן
נפשית למפגש המתקן, הדורון הוא מחווה של פיוס, כי ברור שבמלחמה נהרגים או הורגים,
ואדם בעל נפש אינו רוצה ליהרג, אבל יצטער גם אם בלית ברירה הוא ייאלץ להרוג.

Dear Family and Friends,
After being away for more than 20 years, Yaacov is on his way back
home and will be meeting his brother, whom he left full of resentment. This
encounter arouses anxiety and before he actually meets him, he struggles with a
mysterious figure - the Angel-Spirit-Ghost of Esav according to the
Midrash - and he succeeds to have him surrender. Afterwards he meets his
brother "face to face". This may teach us that sometimes in order to
be able to meet a person "face to face" and establish a real
relationship, we have to overcome some "ghosts", some inner images
who distort the human aspect of the Other. I guess Shimon and Levi didn't learn
from their father. Maybe Yaacov's disappointment could be the disappointment of
every father or mother when children behave in a way contradicting their basic
values.
