Dear Family and Friends,

In some countries, like India, humans, animals, vehicles and everything you could imagine share the same space, and on the other hand differences and gaps between people and social classes are so salient, and the notions of purity, sanctity and impurity have a very strong meaning, This invites us to reflect on the parts of this Shabbat's Torah reading where some of these concepts appear in a different context; temporary impurity and "exclusion" is considered a result of inappropriate social behavior, causing alienation and hatred between people; but, the possibility of renewal and purification reflects the reversibility of processes and the hope for a better society.

Shabbat Shalom, Hodesh Tov and Hag Atzmaut Sameach to all,

Dear Family and Friends,

Rambam (Maimonides) writes that we should arouse questions from the children by introducing changes during the Seder. In addition, he wrote that if one is alone, he still has to ask "what's different tonight".

Maybe this means that when we celebrate our liberation from slavery, CHANGES and QUESTIONS are needed.

Does that mean that Change is a condition for Freedom and that only Free people allow themselves to QUESTION? Or, even more, do we have to be in touch with the child within ourselves in order to change, to feel free and to ask questions?

We wish you a Happy and Meaningful Pessach

Dear Family and Friends,

Tomorrow, we'll experience various aspects of renewal: we'll welcome the Month of Nissan, month of spring and hope. In its honour, we'll read, in addition to the regular section we read on Rosh Hodesh, the section called "Parashat HaHodesh", that can be considered as the second "beginning" of the Torah. This section teaches us about freedom, liberation from Time and from Egyptian idols. We also start reading the book of Vayikra, where Moshe hears the Transcendental Voice calling him and in which we'll find a detailed description of Sacrifices. Maybe, since the Language, the Worship of the Heart replaces the Sacrifices, we should see it as an opportunity of renewal enabling us to listen to ethical challenges?

Shabbat Shalom and Hodesh Tov to all,

Dear Family and Friends,

In the Torah section we'll read tomorrow, Moshe's name doesn't appear; in the Book of Esther, which we'll read on Purim, G-d's name doesn't appear.

Maybe this teaches us that what happens "behind the scenes" is much more meaningful than what we see; our visual perception may lead to superficial conclusions. Reality has more than one layer. This may explain the unpredictable or the mysterious.

Shabbat Shalom- Purim Sameach to all,

Dear Family and Friends,

Tomorrow, we'll read about the Tabernacle, the temporary Sanctuary of the Desert.

This raises the question about the possibility of confining Divine Providence into human dimensions, or maybe it challenges us to perceive and establish spirituality within ourselves and in our relationship with others, not in Heaven.

Shabbat Shalom and Hodesh Tov to all

Dear Family and Friends,

The proximity between the interdiction of worshipping idols and the obligation of defending the rights of the stranger, since "we were strangers in Egypt", probably teaches us to adopt a moral attitude when we deal with our historical memories; ethnocentric narcissism, leading to oppression of the stranger is probably a very well known and popular form of idolatry and reflects a deplorable but understandable human weakness.

Shabbat Shalom to all,

Dear Family and Friends,

Tomorrow, we'll read about the Crossing of the Red Sea. The Midrash tells us that the Angels wanted to 'Sing" and Praise G-d, who reacted by saying:" My handiwork is drowning and you want to sing?!" Another Midrash describes Song, Poetry and Praise as being untemporal. Maybe this teaches us that "Praise", "Song" and "Poetry" should be "pure" and beyond "time, expressing Joy at being rescued does without gloating over the enemy's defeat" . The great poet, Wislawa Shimborska, left this world on Wednesday; her poetry, even when dealing with everyday issues, reached eternity. May her memory be blessed.

Shabbat Shalom to all and Shana Tova to the Trees.
