לבני משפחתנו, חברותינו וחברינו היקרים,
הסמיכות בין האיסור לעבוד עבודה זרה(כב, יט) לבין לבין המצווה לשמור על זכויותיו וכבודו של הגר (הזר) (כב, כ), 'כי גרים היינו בארץ מצרים', מלמדת אותנו שעלינו לאמץ עמדה מוסרית כאשר אנחנו מתבוננים בסיפור הלאומי שלנו: נרקיסיזם אתנוצנטרי המוביל לדיכוי ולהשפלה של הזר ידוע ומוכר ונפוץ, ואולי היא גם צורה של עבודה זרה, המשקפת חולשה אנושית מובנת, אך מגונה.

Dear Family and Friends,
The proximity between the interdiction of worshipping idols and the obligation of defending the rights of the stranger, since "we were strangers in Egypt", probably teaches us to adopt a moral attitude when we deal with our historical memories; ethnocentric narcissism, leading to oppression of the stranger is probably a very well known and popular form of idolatry and reflects an understandable but deplorable human weakness.
