בתחילת הפרשה שנקרא מחר (כי תשא), שכבר קראנו למפטיר לפני 3 שבועות, כפרשת שקלים, נראה שיש גיוס טוטלי ושוויוני של העם, במסגרת מפקד אוכלוסין, לתרום את "מחצית השקל" לעבודת המשכן. בהמשך הפרשה, נקרא על עגל הזהב. נראה לי שקיים מתח בין המשכן לעגל הזהב; יתכן שאם לא היה עגל זהב, לא היה צורך במשכן קונקרטי והעם יכול היה להסתפק במשכן אידיאי וחברתי כמקום ל"שכינה", אך בכל מקרה יש כאן שתי פרדגימות מנוגדות ואולי ניתן ללמוד מזה שגיוס טוטלי ושוויוני איננו מבטיח דבר; אפשר להלהיב ציבור שלם גם להיגרר אחרי העגל, ולכל דור יש עגל משלו.

Dear Family and Friends,
Tomorrow we'll read about the equal contribution of all Israelites to the "Mishkan" (Temporary Sanctuary of the Desert). But, we'll also read about the fervour of the Israelites to worship the Golden Calf. Maybe that if there were no Golden Calf, there would have been no need for a concrete "Mishkan" and a spiritual and social Substrate for Divine Providence would have been sufficient. In any case, it seems that "Mishkan" and "Egel Zahav (Golden Calf)" are 2 contradictory paradigms and maybe that teaches us that solidarity and equality depend on the goal; you can arouse enthusiasm for the Golden Calf as well as well as for the Mishkan and every generation has its Golden Calf>
