לבני משפחתנו, חברותינו וחברינו היקרים,
מחר נתחיל לקרוא בספר ויקרא, המכונה גם "תורת כהנים". חלקים מספר זה עוסקים בנושאים שאימם מהווים חלק מחיי היום יום שלנו. הקרבנות אינם הדרך שלנו להיות בקשר עם האל, עם האחר המוחלט. האם משמעות הדבר היא שיש לנו דרכים טובות יותר, כגון תפילה, לימוד, מדיטציה, התבוננות פילוסופית ומחויבות לאחר האנושי ו"תיקון עולם" שהן גם מתאימות יותר לדורנו?
האם עלינו לחיות תמיד בתושעה של חסר ובתקווה של "השבת העבודה" במובנה הקדום? או אולי טרם השכלנו לתרגם את המהות לקטגוריות מובנות.

Dear Family and Friends,
This Shabbat, we'll start reading a new Book . Vayikra deals apparently with issues that aren't part of our everyday life:
Sacrifices aren't anymore the way we try to establish or to restablish a relationship with G-d, the Absolute Other.
Does that mean that we have better alternatives, like prayer, study, philosophical contemplation, compassion for deprived members of society and "tikun olam", more appropriate for our generation?
Do we have to live constantly with the sensation of loss and hope for revival and restauration of "more authentic patterns"?
Or, maybe we haven't found the way yet to translate the essence into more understandable categories?
