לבני משפחתנו, חברותינו וחברינו היקרים,
לפני מותו, יעקב "מברך" את בניו. לא תמיד הדרך בה הוא בוחר להיפרד מבניו נשמעת כברכה. הוא אינו חוסך את תוכחתו משמעון ולוי על הטבח בשכם, לעומת תגובתו הראשונה לטבח שהיתה רק "עכרתם אותי" - תגובה המבטאת פחד מנקמה. האם אין זה בא ללמדנו שרצח הוא רצח ושטרור הוא טרור, לא משנה מי הרוצח או מי הנרצח?

Dear Family and Friends,
Two concepts are used by Jaacov when he asks his son Joseph to burry him in the land of his Fathers, and not in Egypt; "Hessed" and "Emeth".
Should these notions be translated as "kindness" and "truth"? Or, is 'Emeth" faithfulness?
Actually, this linguistic dilemma raises a more meaningful question: Hessed seems to be something that you are not forced to do, and Emeth sound like something you can rely upon. So, is Emeth in contradiction with Hessed? Or is it a complementary attribute? Can a society, a world, rely on kindness as such, or will it be possible some day?.
