מעשי ידי טובעים בים

לבני משפחתנו, חברותינו וחברינו באשר הם שם,

יציאה מעבדות היא תהליך; לפני פחות משבוע יצאנו ממצרים ואנו עומדים בפני קריעת ים סוף. הנכונות "לקפוץ לים" ולהאמין שנצליח לעבור אותו בשלום מחייבת תקווה ותעוזה.

ניתן להבין את שמחת עם העבדים שהשתחרר על טביעת המצרים. רגש השמחה לאידם של אויבים הוא אנושי ומובן כשלב ראשוני של שחרור.

אך, חֵרות אמתית ונעלה יותר מחייבת יכולת לחוש אמפתיה גם עם סבלם של אויבים. הדבר קשה ולוקח זמן, אך, כאמור, תהליך השחרור הוא איטי וקשה.

לכן, נקרא מחר גם את שירת הים, אך את ההלל נקרא בדילוג: מעשי ידיו של הקב"ה טובעים בים, לכן עלינו גם להכיר במחיר השחרור.

Dear Family and Friends,

Liberation is a process; less than a week ago, we left Egypt and now we are about to cross the Red Sea. The ability to do so and to believe that we'll succeed requires hope and courage.

Apparently, it's a human necessity to see the defeat of the oppressor, enjoy it and even praise God not only for saving our lives and liberating us, but also for punishing the Egyptians.

Nevertheless, a higher level of freedom, a more human and mature level, requires the ability to empathize with the suffering of enemies. This may take time, but without that ability, there is no real freedom.
