לבני משפחתנו, חברותינו וחברינו היקרים
בתחילת ספר שמות נקרא על המרד של נשים אמיצות ( המיילדות ה"עבריות", שלדברי חלק מהפרשנים (כולל נחמה ליבוביץ) היו מצריות, בת פרעה ומרים אחותו של משה) נגד הגזרות של פרעה החדש.
אולי נבחר סיפור זה כדי להתחיל בו את הסיפור הגדול שלנו, את שחרורנו מעבדות ואת הכנתנו להתגלות? ואולי גם כדי ללמדנו שהתנאי המקדים להתגלות הוא יחס הוגן לאחר, לזר.

Dear Family and Friends,
The Book of Shemoth starts with the rebellion of courageous women (the Midwives, who according to some commentators were Egyptians, Pharaoh's daughter and Miriam, Moshe's sister) against Pharaoh's draconian and cruel laws. Maybe this story has been chosen as the introduction to the Book of Shemoth, our Story, the Story of Liberation and Revelation? Or maybe also to teach us that Revelation requires a fair and human relation to the other, to the stranger.
