לבני משפחתנו, חברותינו וחברינו היקרים,
בשנים רגילות, וגם השנה, אנחנו קוראים את סיפור מותם הטרגי של נדב ואביהוא, בני אהרון, בעת חנוכת המשכן, בשבת לפני יום השואה. לאחרונה, אנו עדים לאירועים טרגיים וקשים בארץ ובעולם – אף אחד מאירועים אלו אינו משתווה למימדים של שואה, אך לעתים הם אינם קשים פחות עבור האנשים שנפגעו.
קשה לנו להבין טרגדיות כאלו, כאשר הם באים כתוצאה מאסונות טבע; קשה לנו גם להאמין שהרוע האנושי יכול להגיע לממדים כאלו.
יתכן שסיפור נדב ואביהו בא ללמדנו שגם אם נטייתנו האנושית היא להבין, ולעתים גם לכעוס ולהאשים – את עצמנו או את האחרים – לא תמיד הדבר אפשרי, ולרוב הוא גם איננו מועיל .
כל מה שביכולתנו לעשות, הוא לנסות לתת משמעות לטרגדיה בחיינו ולעשות כל מה שאפשר כדי למנוע אירועים דומים בעתיד.

Dear Family and Friends,
Generally, in regular years, as we do this year, we are reading about the tragedy of Nadav and Avihu, the two sons of Aharon who died during the inauguration of the Tabernacle, just before the Holocaust Memorial Day. Lately, many tragedies – none of them comparable to the dimensions of the Holocaust, but still tragic - are affecting people here in Israel and all over the world, some of them due to disasters like tsunami's, earthquakes; others because of cruelty of men. Sometimes, we find it difficult to understand these tragedies; sometimes we cannot believe that people can be so cruel. This may teach us that, even if we have the very human tendency to "understand", sometimes, although very frustrating, it's impossible and nothing really explains it. All we can do is try to look for the meaning of the tragedy in our life and do whatever possible to avoid them in the future.
