Dispute for the Sake of Heaven
Dear Family and Friends,
It seems that sometimes people disagree strongly, but nevertheless these disagreements have no influence on their personal relationship, since basically they respect each other and are able to tolerate other approaches to life. Intolerance may mask some emotional involvement or blind spots; that's maybe the difference of what our Masters call "Mahloket leShem Shamaym – for the Cause of Heaven"; in this case both sides are interested in Truth and "Mahloket loleShem Shamayim – not for the Cause of Heaven", in which case people are interested in being right, which is the difference between the disputes between Hillel and Shammai and Korach's dissidence.

Military Power does not guarantee sewcurity
Tomorrow, when the "explorers" came back from their exploration, they reported the following:
| 'We cannot go forward against those people!' replied the men who had gone with him. 'They are too strong for us!' | |
| They began to speak badly about the land that they had explored. They told the Israelites, 'The land that we crossed to explore is a land that consumes its inhabitants. All the men we saw there were huge! | |
And at the end of tomorrow's Torah-section, we read:
| speak to the Israelites and have them make tassels on the corners of their garments for all generations. They shall include a twist of sky-blue wool in the corner tassels. These shall be your tassels, and when you see them, you shall remember all of God's commandments so as to keep them. You will then not stray after your heart and eyes, which [in the past] have led you to immorality. There is more than one way to look at reality and interpret it; either you believe that it's a struggle between people and if you aren't strong enough you have no chance to fulfill your dream. Sometimes you perceive the other as a dangerous giant and inevitably, you feel you are a potential and eternal victim. Probably, concluding the section with the commandment of Tzitzit (tassels) with a twist of sky-blue (techelet) that reminds us of the endless sea and of heaven, could teach us that there are other dimensions involved and that military strength doesn't imply ability of living in the Promised Land. the Nazir- a Saint or a Sinner
Is the Nazir (a person who makes a vow of abstinence) a Saint or a sinner?
Our sages discuss this issue and argue about it; maybe sometimes ignoring or repressing very human tendencies (or weaknesses) in order to be a "saint" engender a continuous experience of being a sinner and feeling guilty. Maybe in order to be human, we have to accept and live with our imperfections.

Dear Family and Friends,
On Shavuot we read the Book of Ruth. Many explanations were given to that custom, but maybe there is a profound meaning connecting Ruth to Revelation
Last year we wrote about the difference between Boaz (the audacious) and Ploni Almoni (the "anonymous" – everybody, representing the conservative formalist).
Boaz agreed to marry Ruth the Moabite , despite of the explicit interdiction in the Scripture – the "anonymous"refused.
Does that teach us that in order to experience Revelation, we have to be audacious and creative and think "outside the box", or maybe being audacious and creative, if our intentions are "pure" and oriented towards the "Other" is Revelation..

The Desert
After the Exodus, everything happens in the Desert; the Book we'll start reading tomorrow is 'Bamidbar" – "in the Desert"; many things happen in the Desert; the first Encounter and Covenant between G!d and the Sons of Israel as a people (which will happen in another few days on Shavuot…), the Golden Calf, the Tabernacle, the Exploration of the Land, and some ups and many downs, leading to the fact that the Generation of the Desert, including Moshe and Aharon, will never enter the "Promised Land" .
Is this the inevitable scenario? Does every process, involving much uncertainty, a frustrating tragedy for the First Generation, who'll never reach the Promised Land? Maybe some generations have to get satisfaction and comfort by believing that the "Promised Land" will be reached by the next generation.
Shabbat Shalom and Hodesh Tov to all,
