אחרי מותו של יעקב, חוששים אחי יוסף שהוא לא באמת סלח להם על מה שהם עוללו לו ומפחדים מנקמתו. הם אפילו מרגישים צורך לספר לו ש"אביו" ציווה עליו למחול להם, למרות שזה כנראה לא קרה. יוסף בכה אז בפעם השניה בדברו איתם.
