לבני משפחתנו, חברותינו וחברינו היקרים,
הפרשות שנקרא מחר עוסקות בסוגים שונים של "טומאה" ו"טהרה". מושגים אלו לא בדיוק נהירים ומשמעותיים לאדם המודרני. הרמב"ם מתייחס למושג הטומאה כאל אמצעי הנועד להרחיק את האנשים ככל האפשר מהמקדש, מכיוון שהקדושה זקוקה למרחק.
ואולי בא הדבר ללמדנו שהקדושה אינה קלה להשגה, והיא איננה מובנת מאליה. יש צורך בקצת "רומנטיקה", בערגה, במשהו שיש צורך לחלום עליו.
יום העצמאות המתקרב הוא אולי הזדמנות להתבונן על החזון הציוני, על הפער בינו לבין המציאות הריאלית המורכבת ועל השאיפה למלא את החלל.

Dear Family and Friends,
Tomorrow we'll read about various forms of impurity. According to Rambam (Maimonides), the concept of impurity is related to the necessity of keeping people away as much as possible from the Sanctuary, since Holiness requires Distance.
Maybe this teaches us that Holiness cannot be easily accessible; otherwise it could be taken for granted. A certain degree of "romanticism" is needed; there has to be something left to dream about.
The upcoming Yom Haatzmaut of the "real" independent Jewish State may be an occasion to reflect on romantic Zionism and the complex reality of the State of Israel.
