לבני משפחתנו, חברותינו וחברינו היקרים,
בשבוע שעבר קראנו על היפרדותו של לוט מאברהם. בעקבות היפרדות זו, הוא הגיע לסדום.
השבת נקרא על דו-שיח בין אברהם לאל בו אברהם טוען כנגד הקב"ה: " הגוי גם צדיק תהרוג?! השופט כל הארץ לא יעשה משפט?!"
סדום, בה האנשים "רעים וחטאים"נהרסת בסופו של דבר. דברים רבים נכתבו על חטאעי סדום במדרשים, אך התורה עצמה מדגישה בעיקר את יחסם של אנשי העיר לזרים, שהוא יחס של אלימות, ניצול והשפלה
יתכן שהדבר מלמד אותנו שלחברה המתייחסת לזרים בצורה אלימה ולא מכבדת אין זכות קיום; הרי כל אדם יכול ביום מן הימים להיות הזר, האחר.

Last week we read about Lot who, after leaving Abraham, landed in Sedom. Tomorrow, we'll read about Abraham's dialogue with G-d trying to argue about the Divine Judgment. Afterwards we'll meet Sedom at its worst which inevitably leads to destruction. There are many elaborations on Sedomic culture in Rabbinic Literature, but the Torah itself emphasizes the attitude towards strangers, which is characterized by violence, humiliation and exploitation.
I guess that a society who behaves in a non respectful and violent way towards strangers has no right of existence, since anybody at a certain point can be considered as the stranger , as the "Other".
