לבני משפחתנו, חברותינו וחברינו היקרים,
מחר, בפרשת בא, נקרא על מכות מצרים האחרונות; בין היתר נקרא על מכת ה"חושך". התורה אומרת לנו ש"לבני ישראל היה אור בכל מושבותם" ורק למצרים היה חושך. דיוק זה הביא פרשנים מסוימים להבנה שלא היה חושך של ממש, אלא משהו שמנע מהמצרים לראות את האור, ולכן לא יכלו "לראות איש את אחיו". ואולי מדובר כאן בעווריון רגשי ומוסרי הפוגע בכל אדם ובכל עם המדכא אדם אחר או עם אחר? והשיא של עוורון זה הוא אי היכולת "לראות איש את אחיו" או אפילו את עצמו. בני ישראל היו בשלים לשחרור כאשר היו מסוגלים לראות איש את רעהו, וגם לפי פרשנים מסוימים, לספק מזון לשכניהם המצרים שהיו באפילה.

Dear Family and Friends,
We'll read tomorrow about one of the plagues afflicted to the Egyptians : "Hoshech" (darkness) .
According to some commentators, since only the Egyptians were afflicted by the 'darkness', everywhere, it meant that something was interfering between their eyes and the outside world and therefore they weren't able to 'see' each other.
Maybe this emotional and moral blindness, the inability to see "the other", affects every oppressor at a certain stage and reaches its peak when people don’t see their brothers or even themselves. The Israelites reached the stage of liberation, when they were able to see each other and even, according to some commentators provide food to the "blind" Egyptians.
