לבני משפחתנו, חברותינו וחברינו היקרים,
מחר, השבת הראשונה "אחרי החגים", נתחיל מבראשית ונקרא בין היתר על תולדות האדם.ועל דברי רבי עקיבא שאמר: "ואהבת לרעך כמוך - זה כלל גדול בתורה", הגיב תלמידו בן עזאי: "זה ספר תולדות אדם - כלל גדול מזה"
התורה מספרת לנו כמה דברים חשובים ומעניינים על האדם: הוא נברא בצלם אלוהים – כלומר: יש בו חלק טרנסצנדנטי המאפשר לו להתבונן בעצמו ובעולם מעבר לצרכיו הבסיסיים; "לא טוב היות האדם לבדו" – הוא זקוק לאחר(ת) כדי להשלים חלקים החסרים בו, כדי לעזור לו להתמודד עם בדידותו וגם כדי לדאוג להמשכיות. המשכיות זו היא הגורם המאזן את עובדת היותו בן תמותה. והדבר הנוסף שנכתב עליו הוא שמעצם טבעו הוא "חוטא"; כלומר: צלם האלוהים שבו מאותגר ע"י דחפים הרסניים. אין ספק שמדובר ביצור מעניין...

Dear Family and Friends,
Tomorrow we start reading Bereishit again; among other issues, the section we'll read tomorrow tells us something about the nature of Human Beings.
Men are created in G-d's Image – they have a transcendental dimension enabling them to understand the world beyond their immediate personal needs.
He should not be "alone"; he needs the Other to complete missing parts, to relief his loneliness, and to give him/her a sense of continuity.
This continuity may balance mortality.
And last but not least; he is existentially a "sinner" – His/her Spiritual/transcendental dimension is constantly challenged by destructive drives. Isn't he/she an interesting creature?
